Abstract:
This interview contains memories mainly related to the gradual loss of Gere's vision from Retinitis Pigmentosa. Never seeming to let blindness get in her way, Gere experienced life with a courageous zeal. She joined clubs, rode a bicycle, walked everywhere, and when she couldn't read anymore, she made many volunteer, reader, friends. Eventually, she was able to begin using aids for the visually impaired, and her various guide dogs have opened new freedoms to her. Her latest adventure involves learning to use a computer with the assistance of a device called, "Jaws."
